Leopard catamarans
Two different ways to cruise with Leopard
Leopard offers both sailing catamarans and power catamarans, built by Robertson and Caine in Cape Town. That distinction should come early in your search. Consider how much you enjoy managing sails, how you expect to travel between destinations, and the operating demands you are prepared to take on. The accommodation may look comparable in photographs while the ownership and passage-planning questions differ substantially.
Compare helm, living spaces, and systems
The Leopard 46 is one reference point within the sailing range, but brokerage choices span different models and generations. During a viewing, move between the helm, cockpit, galley, and cabins as you would on a normal day aboard. Examine visibility, communication with crew, storage, and equipment access. Confirm the actual cabin configuration and installed systems instead of relying on a model’s standard brochure layout.
Understand the yacht’s operating history
For any used Leopard, establish whether it has been privately operated or used in charter. Ask for maintenance records, details of repairs, and a clear equipment inventory. Sailing models require attention to rig and sail condition; power models bring a different emphasis to propulsion and fuel planning. In both cases, sea trial and survey should address the individual boat and the kind of cruising you intend to do.
Glen’s connection to Leopard
Glen’s catamaran experience includes a Leopard factory tour in Cape Town, South Africa. It sits within a much broader background of offshore cruising, deliveries, chartering, ownership, racing, and brokerage. He can help connect questions about the builder and boat with the decisions you will live with as an owner. His factory experience is not a claim that he is currently an authorized Leopard dealer.
